14/12 2015

Karate Live brings you interview with Victoria Sokolova, who participated in the World Championship of WFF and UWKF in Belgrade 2015 with a great success. Next to her competitive career,  Victoria Sokolova is also karate trainer and she teaches "women selfdefense".

When did you start practising karate?

I starded practicing karate in 2002 , when I was 10 years old.

Who is your first karate teacher?

My first teacher, who is still my teacher to this day, is Povh Yuri.

How does your training before an important championship look like?

I trained everyday but I changed kind of training: technique, kata, kumite, cardio, running, fitness. Also I should be mentally prepared, so I did some meditation.

Which part of training is your favourite?

Most of all I like to practice kumite. It's my favourite part. Here you should feel and be ready of what your opponent is going to do and to react. It's like chess. Here you can show your spirit and real karate.

You competed at World Championship of World Fudokan Federation (WFF) and UWKF (United World Karate-Do Federation) in Belgrade, in December 2015. Can you tell us about your results?

I won 1st place in shobu-ippon category and 2nd place in full contact category (irikumi-go).

What are your future plans?

I want to rest a week because I got flu, after that, my sensei and I are going to Open Martial Art Centre in January ( nowdays we have been making recoveries there). And also I will be preparing to the European Championship and teach my students.

What are your leisure time activities?

I am organizer of social project "Kharkov!Get up" - I train everybody, who wants, in the fresh air in the park for free, without money every weekend, find the people, who also want to help me and we do such event through our city.

Do you have a life motto?

I have life motto: Always Practise. But I dont know, how its exactly in English, but the meaning of it: What you know, you can tell to the world, but beforehand - Show. I repeat this everyday to myself. I don't like empty words, so if I want somebody to do something - I don't talk to much, I try to be example for people.
