09/06 2017

Ashley Davis (USA) won 1st Place in Female Kumite -68 kg at the XXXI Adults Pan American Karate Championship, Curacao 2017, May 23, 2017

Interview with Ashley Davis:

Can you tell us something more about your match at Pan American Championship? How difficult was the way to the gold medal and what is your overall feeling from the PKF Championship?
It's hard for me to recall a lot of detail about my PKF matches. When I fight I'm in the moment. This years entire PKF experience was awesome. We were in paradise, the venue was great, the US Team spirit was incredible. It felt good fighting. I had amazing support from my team mates, coaches, my Sensei, DJ Moukhtarov, the people I train with at home and my friends that I met through karate all over the world. They were all blowing up my phone the entire competition with encouragement and support. In my mind there was no way I was going to lose that day. I was in my zone.

Who was your first teacher?
My first teacher was Shihan Tokey Hill, the first World Champion from the United States. I was four years old when I started karate and Shihan Hill instilled in me a strong competitive spirit. One of his favorite sayings was "second place is just the last person to lose," but he also taught us to shake off a bad fight and to get right back into the game as if it never happened.

What is your best memory in karate?
My best memory in karate was winning the bronze medal for Women Team Kumite at the 2016 WKF World Championships. It was very special because we weren't just a team, we are friends outside karate.

What are your future plans?
Like every competitor who ever steps on a tatami, my plans are to become a World, then Olympic champion.

Thank you very much for the interview. We wish you all the best in the future. Karate Live
