Interview with Alexandra Recchia

03/02 2016

Karate Live brings you interview with Alexandra Recchia - WKF World and European Champion, who lives in France.

You have won K1 Paris Open few days ago. What were your first feelings after you won?

A big feeling of satisfaction and pride. It was my last Paris Open and for me and the French team, it's the most important competition of the year after the World and European championship. Moreover I was supported by a big team (family, friends, fans) who did a lot of road to come !

What was the technic which secured you the winning point?

A giaku tsuki just after an ura mawashi geri. my opponent avoided my ura mawashi geri and when I put my leg on the ground I continued with my point

Which match at K1 Open Paris do you consider as the hardest? What do you think about your opponents?

The hardest match was against Serap Ozcelik from Turkey, my biggest rival. According to me, she is the best female fighter in all categories and she is also very kind ! I have fought against her since we were 15 years old !! Sometimes she wins sometimes I win but when she wins I'm really happy for her and I think it's the same thing for her. I really appreciate Serap and I wish her all the best.

You have competed in the top level karate competitions for the last 10 years. Which fight do you remember most and which one was the most satisfying?

My favourite fight is against the tallest Croatian girl in the final of the World championship in Paris in 2012. 35 centimeters between she and me !!! I wanted fight against her, it was my last challenge for 2012 !!! My Coach thought that I could win and excite the team because I was in the first match. I didn t win but the score was 3-3 and I made a great job and my team won for the second time the world championship ^^.

How does your training looks right before the match? Do you have some kind of ritual?

Yes, I have a ritual before the competition : streching a leg against the wall to rest :) during the competition I tell to myself 3 words but I can't give it to you, it's a secret ;).

At what age did you start with karate. Did you like it from the beginning? Who was your first trainer?

I started at 6 years old. I loved it from the first training. My first trainer, Jean-Yves MARTIN, like a second father, told to my parents that I had something special, that I was gifted but not also, I had a flame in my look.

Do you remember your first competition? Have you ever competed in kata?

Yes, I will always remind my first competition. After 6 month of practice only. I lost because I didn t remember my kata. I hated the lost. I cried toward my mum but she told me " Don t cry ! it's your fault ! You just had to remember your kata !" I was so humiliated. I swore to myself that I will never loose again. and I have never lost during 7-8 years.

You also teach at technical seminars. When and where is the next one?

In Rouen (France), February 27. Come to see me =)

Do you do any other sport? What are your other hobbies besides karate?

I run at least one time per week. I like musculation, cardio training, crossfit and also shopping ^^.

What is your favourite food? Do you like cooking?

Without hesitation, Japanese and Chinese food ! Love it !!!!!!
